Since 1978

Communications planning – for almost five decades.

In 1978 Intel introduced the 8086 microprocessor – the basis of the x86 architecture that still shapes many computers and servers today. In the same year SKP was founded: according to our company history, as Germany’s first specialist planning office for telecommunications technology, back when the Deutsche Bundespost still held the telecommunications monopoly.

Technologies and markets have changed fundamentally since then. Our standard has not: we match our clients’ requirements with technically sound and economically sensible solutions – from needs analysis through tendering and bid evaluation to migration and acceptance.

  1. Identify risks

Systematically assess protection needs, dependencies and vulnerabilities.

  2. Prioritise measures

Align investments with impact, criticality and feasibility.

  3. Secure operations

Bring roles, processes, documentation and technical architecture together.

Make it secure. Keep it connected. For public sector clients and critical infrastructure operators: security and availability are part of the plan from the start.

Approach

A structured path to your target.

A clear project approach provides direction for technical, commercial and organisational decisions.

  1. 1. Understand

Assess existing systems, user needs, risks and constraints precisely.

  2. 2. Plan

Develop the target architecture, options, costs and a realistic migration path.

  3. 3. Procure

Support specifications, evaluation and procurement with technical expertise.

  4. 4. Deliver

Coordinate implementation, quality, schedules and the transition to operations.

In practice

Three projects. Anonymised, but concrete.

For reasons of confidentiality we do not name our clients. These examples show what we do.

Energy utilityTendering and evaluation

Radio links for distributed grid stations

Modernising the communication links on the basis of 450 MHz radio, with redundant paths for time-critical applications. SKP supports the tender and the evaluation of the solutions offered.

Project details

An energy utility is planning to modernise the communication links of its distributed grid stations on the basis of 450 MHz radio. Measurement and control data must be transmitted reliably; redundant links are planned for particularly time-critical applications.

SKP supports the tender and the evaluation of the solutions offered. The focus is on encryption, routing, redundancy, monitoring and the configuration and maintainability of the components. A planned field test will verify the technical requirements before the gradual roll-out.

Our work creates a transparent basis for the selection and takes later operation, documentation and roll-out requirements into account at the procurement stage.

Consulting area: Digital infrastructure

Municipal administrationImplementation and acceptance

One communication system for many sites

Telephony, digital collaboration and contact centre in a hybrid architecture. SKP supports implementation, operational readiness testing and acceptance preparation.

Project details

A municipal administration is modernising its communications across numerous administrative and field sites. The solution combines telephony, digital collaboration and contact centre functions in a hybrid architecture with central and local components.

SKP supports the implementation, the testing of operational readiness and the preparation of acceptance. Particular attention is paid to external reachability, voice quality, site connections and the interplay of the different systems. When problems arise, SKP supports the technical assessment and the structured follow-up of the measures required.

The focus is on making the agreed functions and quality requirements verifiable in actual operation.

Consulting area: Unified communications

Hospital groupTender and framework agreement

A shared UCaaS solution for many hospitals

Central communication services with mobility, DECT, contact centre and alerting. SKP develops the tender documents, service catalogue and evaluation criteria for a group-wide framework agreement.

Project details

A hospital group is planning a shared UCaaS solution for numerous facilities. Central communication services are to be combined with the different requirements of the individual hospitals, including mobile communication, DECT, contact centre, alerting and interfaces to existing applications.

SKP develops the technical tender documents, the service catalogue and the evaluation criteria for a group-wide framework agreement. Key requirements concern local continuity of operation during outages, redundant communication paths, information security, data sovereignty and binding service levels.

The planning creates a common procurement basis while taking site-specific needs into account. Services, prices and operating responsibilities are thus described in a comparable and transparent way.
